I watched REC 2 shortly after watching the original REC and I have to admit the the first few scenes were a bit cliché with some forced and somewhat clumsy acting. There’s this change-up of who’s in command early in the movie and the way it played out was unconvincing, but that’s the only negative thing I can say about the movie. These feelings could be artefacts in my minds eye because I saw the first REC film just last week and was just blown away but it. It’s too early to even attempt to make a comparison between the two movies so I won’t. REC 2 is an excellent follow-up to REC and that I can say whole heartedly. When the REC 2 get’s into its second act the anxiety, horror, frustration and dealing with impossible situations is believably portrayed. The non-stop horror ramps up and puts us on another high anxiety roller coaster ride of insane zombie fun and it stays there with eyes glued to the screen till the end.
The zombie trope is nothing new and in the past 10 years at least 10 zombie movies have been released and this doesn’t even go into television and cable B offerings. I’ll admit I haven’t seen many of them. I have heard about them via reviews and online sources and none of them looked very impressive to me. Plus the reviews weren’t that great so I skipped a lot of them. I saw Quarantine before I saw REC and I’ll be another fan of REC to say Quarantine has nothing on REC. Quarantine was a shameless ripoff of a great movie and that’s all I’ll say about that.
After what I deemed was kind of a bumpy beginning, REC 2 got right back on track and gives us back the fun that was the first installment of REC. Plus we started getting some hints of information to what’s really going on which has me chomping at the bit to get into the the rest of the series to learn what’s going on. REC 2 turned out to be an excellent addition the REC series. Prior to me starting to watch the REC movies, I didn’t know there was 5 movies in the series so far. However after watching REC parts 1 and 2 I can say a really engrossing story is starting to emerge and I can’t wait to watch the next three movies that are available in this series.
Yeah, REC and REC 2 are fun little movies and I like where the story is going and I look forward to what’s upcoming. I’ll probably schedule REC 3 to be watched next week sometime and shortly after that my review will hit the website.
Thanks for reading my review and if you haven’t seen REC yet, it’s time.
