The Death demo is a Vietnamese horror game I found on Steam. It was released on August 24, 2021 so as of the date of writing this demo it’s just a couple days old. One of things I immediately liked when I started the demo was the sights and sounds of Vietnam. The graphics are clean and has a very unique look to it. When I got to the room bathed in the red glow that was pretty cool and very creepy. One thing I’m going to say about this demo is that what little there is of it was VERY hard. It was hard for me anyways. The things you need to find are very difficult to locate and if you don’t know the Vietnamese custom for praying for someone who’s recently deceased, my guess is you’ll be running to a playthrough (like I had to) to figure out how to get past that particular part. I completed the demo in about 25-30 minutes and I enjoyed what I saw. I wouldn’t spend a lot to get this game but if it’s priced right, and chances are that it will be being an independent game on Steam, I’ll probably pick up the full game. The full game is yet to be released however notes on Steam point to the full game being release soon. Sorry for the pixelated image above. The actual demo is much nicer.
Chernobyl Inferno demo is another game I found on Steam. It’s Thursday today and as I don’t have a whole lot to do today I thought I would check in on some short horror and escape room type games that I’ve come to enjoy. Usually these games last 30 minutes to an hour and there is a huge selection on Steam. Most good or at least interesting and some bad. Chernobyl Inferno like The Death is a demo so these aren’t exactly complete 30-60 minute games but because they were demo’s I figured that would be the amount of time I would spend on them to see if I liked them. I didn’t enjoy this demo as much as The Death for a couple reasons. First off, the game starts you off in a dark warehouse. There’s practically no light available and not much to see. You have a flashlight, but the game doesn’t tell you that. I spent some time looking around in the dark for a flashlight and then I hit the ‘F’ key and wala, the flashlight comes on. Additionally the game doesn’t give you any help. It kind of assumes you know how to play these type of games or you looked at the key bindings before playing. Once I did get into the game it was all right. This game features the most creepy door opening hinge creak effect, I think the beast I’ve heard. I’m not sure if I was suppose to be looking for a weapon or if I was suppose to run away from everything. After about 10 minutes of walking around and eventually figuring out I can duck under stuff to progress, I started encountering the enemies. Maybe I should have read something about the game because I couldn’t figure out if I was suppose to fight these guys or run away from them. Last thing is the game seemed possibly ‘twitchy’. When I move my mouse to the right and I move too far, the mouse seems to ‘stick’. This happened enough that I eventually just turned the demo off and moved on. This is just a demo and not a polished product so I suppose the issues I had could have to do with that. However, from what I did see, I’m not sure if I’ll revisit this one. I may have another look if there’s any updates to the demo but my opinion on this one is pass till it gets a little more mature.
